If you take a trip around the Cretan nature, you don't have to go far from the cities and tourist areas before you can have an intense and sensual experience of the scents of the many wild growing Greek spices. In the evening, when you pass by the many taverns, regardless of whether you are in Crete or one of the other islands, the smell is there again, but now in wonderful interaction with the smells of the various dishes being prepared. The Greek spices are used in a big way in everyday cooking and contribute with a wide and varied taste.

Add Greek spices to Danish cuisine

In Denmark, we are often a bit limited and conservative in our choice of spices. These are the classic spices that we know from the good old Danish cuisine, like you, and we have no doubts about what doesn't go together.

On the other hand, you can benefit from implementing the Greek spices in the Danish kitchen. Regardless of whether you throw yourself into a Greek steak, souvlaki or moussaka, or whether you cook one of the traditional Danish dishes, the Greek spices can contribute to a better and more sophisticated taste.

Find exciting Greek flavors at Elenas

Perhaps you have traveled around Greece and enjoyed the Greek flavors in Greek restaurants, where souvlaki, tzatziki and gyros are always at the top of the menu. Fortunately, the Greek spices are not only found within the borders of Greece and at Elenas we have done our best to offer a large selection so that you can prepare your food in the best ways.

Choose from spices such as gyros, mix for your tzatziki or your Greek salad, or you can give your baked potatoes the perfect Greek taste. Common to all our spices is the high quality, which is guaranteed to do something good for the taste. However, you will also find spices which are extremely well known in Danish cuisine, but which, with their Greek origin, have a special quality and taste:

  • You certainly know oregano as a permanent fixture in the spice cabinet. However, the Greek oregano is equipped with a more spicy taste, which nevertheless works refreshingly for Greek as well as Danish recipes. Use it as the finishing touch on the Greek salad, or get authentic Greek potatoes with a sprinkling of Greek oregano.

  • Thyme grows in style on the dry cliff sides in Greece, and this is therefore a spice that originally comes from Greece, and which is already used in style in Danish kitchens.

  • Bay leaves are an herb that we often add to roast pork before it goes in the oven, or in simmering dishes, where the strong and spicy scent of the leaves adds flavor. Bay leaves are particularly well known in Greek mythology as the wreath worn by Apollo.

Where can you buy gyro seasoning?

The gyro seasoning is a huge hit with the Greeks when marinating the meat. It can be anything from kebab-like meat to a traditional Greek meatloaf.
