Admittedly... It's probably a bit of a special title for this trip, but if you've been to Crete in the areas around Agia Apostoli, Stalos, Agia Marina and Platanias, you've probably wondered many times about the small island that lies immediately outside . This is where the so-called Kri-Kri goats go and which today is a nature reserve, where we two-legged creatures are only allowed once a year. Public access to the island is always on 8 June. There is one of two uninhabited islets off the coast of western Crete. One is called Agios Theodoros, also called Thodorou, and the islet a few meters further north is called Mikros Agios Theodoros. Administratively, they are part of the municipality of Platanias, in the Chania region
With its mouth wide open lies the largest of these ancient Akoition (meaning uninhabited) islets, like a sea monster with its little offspring at its side, turned to stone by the god Posidion and saving the inhabitants from certain death. The mother with her 70 hectares size and her offspring Glaroloula is next to it, whose name refers to the hundreds of seagulls that welcome you as you approach. In Minoan times, Theodorou was a holy asylum and you will also find one of the very old temples built on the island. During the Venetian period, a fortress was built on the island in 1583 due to its dominant position. In 1897 it became part of the independent Cretan state and in 1930 both islands were protected and turned into Nature Parks.
Since 1935, the so-called Kri-Kri goats have roamed the island. The first wild goat from the Samaria gorge was released together with 2 females on the peaceful island, so that they could reproduce without interference and contribute to increasing the population of the Kri Kri goats in the Samaria gorge, which were on the verge of extinction. However, it quickly turned out that the goats were "married", which led to minor changes in the original species, in order to avoid inbreeding of the stock on the island.
Only one day a year is it allowed to visit the island. It is always on the 8th of June, when several priests from all over the northern part of the Chania region gather around the small temple named after the holy Saint Theodore. Here there is an opportunity to participate and at the same time see some of the plants that only grow on Theodorou and maybe be lucky enough to catch up with a wild goat.
In small and medium-sized boats, it is sailed from early morning in a shuttle service to and from the island, and this is where we are going. If you are interested in nature, this tour is a unique chance to experience something that is only possible once a year.
In addition to visiting Theodorou and seeing the coast of Chania from the water side, we have included a program with several culinary experiences, excursions and surprises and of course a city trip to the old Chania city center.
For this tour, as on our other tours, there is deliberately not a day-by-day description, because this tour is for those who may have already been to Crete early and for those who want to be surprised.

Ideal Hotel Resort is located with direct access to the beach, from which there is an unobstructed view of Theodorou. On the lovely sandy beach, there are sun loungers and parasols for free use by hotel guests, beach and snack bar. In addition, the hotel has 2 pools, a fitness center, Wi-Fi in the rooms and hotel area, as well as a restaurant, bar and pool bar.

There should therefore be every opportunity to have an early summer trip to Crete with sun and 24-25 degree heat, in good company with others in this small group trip with a maximum of 20-22 travelers.

A deposit of DKK 1,400 must be paid per travelers (+ possibly additional order of cancellation insurance/travel insurance, if desired). The remaining part must be paid no later than 60 days before departure. Payment specification appears when ordering.
We reserve the right to cancel the trip and thus refund the full amount paid if the trip cannot be completed due to lack of registration, force majeure or other external circumstances. Any cancellation due to lack of registration will take place no later than 60 days before departure.
