For many, Spanish ham is an iconic name from Spain, and for good reason! Spanish ham is world-class charcuterie, and it comes in many versions and variations.
There are many classes of ham qualities, from the typical Serrano, Duroc or Reserva and right up on the top shelf you will find Bellota, Iberico and Pata negra. These are fantastic hams in the gourmet class!
Spanish ham for Tapas
You can get Spanish hams as whole legs, in large pieces or in sliced packages. If you have to prepare a sumptuous tapas table for many people, or enjoy going and snacking on delicious, flavorful ham on a daily basis, then the whole hams are an obvious choice! If, on the other hand, you want to use your delicious Spanish ham for a dish such as stuffed mushrooms or Croquetas con jamón , the larger pieces are good for cutting into suitable cubes. Last but not least, the already sliced packages are extremely practical and ready to eat, perfect for making a delicious sandwich, also called bocadillo, or for wrapping around a piece of juicy melon. If, of course, you can refrain from eating it all directly from the package!
Like ham, Spanish sausages are also an important tradition, and one of the most well-known examples must be the wonderful Chorizo sausage! It tastes of delicious smoked paprika and can be found in both a Dulce and a Picante version, which means sweet and strong respectively.
In addition to Chorizo, there are wonderful sausages such as Fuet, Salchichón, Sobrasada, Chistorra and many more!
The Spanish sausages are good sliced on a tapas table, or simply served as an aperitif with a small bowl of olives. Some of them are also intended for cooking, where they are fried or simmered in a stew. An example of this is the rustic dish Sopa de lentejas , which is a wonderful, healthy and filling soup with, among other things, lentils, potatoes and large pieces of delicious chorizo!
The possibilities are many, and only the imagination sets the limits!
