The Spanish picos are a classic on the tapas table!
The small, crispy breads are perfect for dipping in, for example, tapenades and pâté, or to eat with Jamón iberico!
You can also serve them with a cold beer and a bowl of olives, just like you might have encountered in Spanish tapas bars and cafes!
They are typically made from wheat flour, water, salt and yeast, and then a type of vegetable fat. These crispy Picos from La Chinata are made with good quality extra virgin olive oil!
This type of bread has a long history in Spain, as their very low water content makes them so long-lasting that they were perfect to take with you on the long journeys you had to make in the old days, before transport was as developed as it is today.
Picos means "spikes" in Spanish, and the name refers to their fine, elongated shape.
The tradition and their wonderful, crunchy bite have meant that they are still a must-have on the tapas table to this day!
