Greek feta cheese | Greek cheese | Greek yoghurt

Greece, like the many other fantastic world cuisines, has a large repertoire of delicious cheeses and other dairy products. With our large selection of Greek dairy products, you are guaranteed access to Greece's wonderful food universe!

Although it is hard to beat the familiar creamy, salty and milky white feta, Greek cheese is much more than that. Common to many of the cheeses is that they are often made from goat's milk, which is a healthier alternative to milk from cows due to the high content of, among other things, vitamin A, calcium, riboflavin, potassium and niancin. Goat's milk is also easier to digest due to the lower lactose content. Some of them also contain sheep's milk or cow's milk, which are mixed together to achieve a specific taste, texture or appearance.

Greece has a long history linked to the production of cheeses, and in ancient Greece cheese was even seen as a sacred food! Almost all Greek regions have their own traditions around the production of cheese, and today you can count around 60 different kinds. The most famous must undoubtedly be feta, which no summer salad will be without, but Greek cheese comes in so many varieties that it is definitely worth exploring what else is on offer!

Dairy products can be used to add a creamy feel to dishes and plenty of flavor that is difficult to achieve with other foods. It can be used as a main element, as a side dish or as an ingredient for a dish, no matter which way you like to use the wonderful dairy products, it will add the finishing touch. In Greece, for example, Greek yogurt is used to tenderize meat in marinades, delicious, flavorful cheeses are grated over pasta or even breaded and fried cheese!

The latter dish is called Saganaki, and is a super delicious way to eat cheese. A firm, mild cheese is used which melts just enough to create the delicious, creamy sensation in the mouth, but still holds its shape so that it does not flow onto the plate. Examples of cheeses you can use are graviera, kefalograviera and kefalotyri. If you don't have this, other firm and mild cheeses can also be used, but with these fantastic Greek cheeses you ensure a good result with authentic Greek taste. The dish is made by wetting the cheese with water, turning it in flour and frying it in plenty of olive oil. The result is a crispy crust with soft, melted cheese in the middle. Serve with a few drops of fresh lemon juice and some good bread. Bon appetite!
